The government has set a target of sending about 1.4 million Bangladeshi workers abroad in the next fiscal year, state minister for expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment Nurul Haque Nur, speaking on behalf of minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, said on Monday during the second sitting of the second session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
Responding to a starred question from Dhaka-1 lawmaker Khondkar Abu Ashfaq, he also said that a total of 9,33,815 Bangladeshi workers secured overseas employment in different countries between July 1, 2025 and May 31, 2026.
He said that the government was continuing efforts to expand overseas employment opportunities by sending skilled and professional workers to foreign destinations.
Nur also said that diplomatic negotiations were continuing with Malaysia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to reopen or expand labour market access for Bangladeshi workers in those countries where recruitment remaind closed or restricted.
