The government has suspended Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Mayor Mohammad Zahangir Alam.
Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam came up with the announcement on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, a three-member mayoral panel was formed for the city corporation.
On November 19, the ruling Awami League expelled its Gazipur metropolitan unit general secretary and city mayor Jahangir Alam from the party for his derogatory remarks on Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyrs of the Liberation War.
This decision was taken at an Awami League central committee meeting chaired by party President Sheikh Hasina.
