The government has issued a gazette bringing the new pay structure for public servants into effect.

Under the process of implementing the new pay structure in four phases over two years, basic salaries will rise by 30 per cent now and by another 35 per cent in January.

The finance ministry issued the gazette for the ‘Government Service Pay Order 2026’ on Tuesday, a day after the new pay structure was approved by the cabinet.

The ninth pay scale has been announced after 11 years to increase the salaries of government employees. Under the new structure, salaries will rise by up to 142 per cent.

According to the gazette, however, the increases will not be implemented at once. They will be implemented in four phases over the next two fiscal years.

Thirty per cent of the basic salary under the new structure will take effect from July 1 this year.

This means government employees will receive 40 per cent of the increased salary from July. The additional amounts for July and August will be paid as arrears.

Another 35 per cent will take effect from January 1. The remaining portion of the basic salary will be implemented in July of the following fiscal year. Various allowances will then be implemented in January of that fiscal year.

With the implementation of the new pay structure, the dearness allowance will be abolished. Those who have already received the dearness allowance for July and August will have the amount adjusted against their increased salaries.
