Criticising Dr Hasan Mahmud for involving Tarique Rahman’s name in casino scandal, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said he (Dr Hasan Mahmud) is a ‘creative information minister’.

“Information Minister has proposed a new theory that BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman gets a share from the casino money. What an expended analysis by the creative information minister! He has invented this theory,” he said.

The BNP leader made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a rally, organised by local BNP in Rajshahi.

Fakhrul said, “It is more serious than the casino scandal that TK 27,000 crore was laundered out of Bangladesh and was deposited to Swiss banks in last one year.”

Terming money laundering as a ‘small offence’, he also said, “The government has taken away the people’s right to vote and it is a more serious crime than it (money laundering).”

On September 24, Hasan Mahmud claimed that Tarique Rahman gets monthly Tk 1 crore from the casino, run by detained contractor GK Shamim. He also warned of investigating the matter.
