An elderly man and his son were killed when a pickup van hit their motorbike on the Shah Amanat Bridge in Karnaphuli upazila of Chattogram district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Durgapodo Mallik, 75, and his son Bidhan Mallik, a biology teacher at Doulatpur Multipurpose High School of Anwara upazila.

The accident took place in the morning when the pickup van hit the motorbike carrying them while going to their village home, leaving Durgapodo killed on the spot and his son injured, said Nurul Islam, sub-inspector of Karnaphuli Police Station.

Later, Bidhan was taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police seized the pickup van, but its driver managed to flee the scene.
