The government has appointed full-time administrators to six City Corporations, including Dhaka North and Dhaka South, until new corporations are formed.

The Local Government Division (LGD) under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued the official notification on Sunday, under Section 25 (ka), sub-section (1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.

According to the notification, Md Abdus Salam has been named administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), while Md Shafiqul Islam Khan will oversee Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

In other major cities, Nazrul Islam Monju has been appointed for Khulna, and Abdul Quayum Chowdhury for Sylhet City Corporation. Md Sakhawat Hossain Khan will administer Narayanganj City Corporation, and Md Shawakat Hossain Sarkar will take charge of Gazipur City Corporation.

The notification states that the administrators will exercise the powers and duties of the Mayor as per sub-section (3) of Section 25 (ka) of the Ordinance and will receive allowances in accordance with the established rules.

The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect.
