Road, Rail and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has said that bus fares have not been increased, but rather “adjusted,” adding that no complaints have been received regarding the fares.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists in the capital on Saturday (April 25).

The minister said that if fuel prices decrease, fares will also be reduced accordingly. “A notification from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) will be enough; no meeting will be required,” he added.

He also clarified that fares for gas-run buses have not been raised and warned that action will be taken if any such increase is found.

Addressing traffic congestion, the minister noted that the dominance of auto-rickshaws is contributing to traffic jams. He said there are plans to gradually remove auto-rickshaws from major roads.

“This issue is under discussion. It is not possible to bring change overnight, but we will try to resolve it through coordination with all stakeholders,” he added.
