Police recovered three bomb-like objects from different areas in Meherpur town on Saturday morning.

A box-shaped objects were found attached to electric wires in front of Meherpur University, at Court Mor and near Dr Shahid Samsuzzoha Park at about 9:30am.

Local people first spotted one of the objects hanging from an electric pole in front of Meherpur University, causing alarm in the area. A crowd gathered at the scene before a team from Meherpur police station arrived.

Police, with the help of local people, brought the object down and placed it in a bucket of water before disconnecting wires connected to its battery. On opening the box, police found it to be similar to a sound system device.

Police later received information about two other similar objects attached to electric wires at Court Mor and near Dr Shahid Samsuzzoha Park.

The object at Court Mor was also recovered by the police.

Pedestrians said that a recorded speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman began playing from the device near the park at about 9:15am, prompting police to rush to the spot and remove it.

The three objects were later taken to Meherpur police station.

Meherpur police station officer-in-charge Humayun Kabir said that there was no reason for people to panic as the recovered objects were not bombs.

He said that police were investigating the incidents and those responsible would be brought under the law.
