A Bangladeshi expatriate from Sandwip has been killed in a missile strike in Bahrain, reportedly launched from Iran amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The victim, Md Tarek (48), was a resident of Azimpur Pahar area of Sandwip. He was killed on Monday morning while on duty at a shipyard in Bahrain when the missile attack occurred.
According to family sources, Tarek had been working in Bahrain for nearly 27 years. He was the sole earning member of his family and regularly sent remittances back home.
His death was confirmed by Mosharraf Hossain, Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, who is also the victim’s cousin.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over his hometown, with relatives and local residents mourning the loss of the long-time expatriate worker.
