Bangladesh national women’s hockey team registered their first win in the Women’s Asian Games 2026 Qualifiers, as they beat Uzbekistan 3-2 in their Pool A second game at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday.

Bangladesh midfielder Sharika Safa Rimon and forwards Kona Akter and Airin Akter Riya each scored once for their first win on the International stage, which strengthenend their position to secure a place in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Madinabonu Khujaeva and captain Zulkhumor Khaydarova pulled two goals back for Uzbekistan, who suffered a 5-0 defeat to Hong Kong in the eight-team tournament opener.

The first quarter of the match ended 1-1, with Sharika giving Bangladesh the lead from a penalty corner in the 11th minute, followed by Khujaeva equalising for Uzbekistan from a penalty corner just one minute later.

Bangladesh regained the lead in the 24th minute as Kona scored a field goal to go into the half-time with a 2-1 lead, while Riya (40th) extended the margin, scoring from a penalty corner in the third quarter before Khaydarova (46th) converted a penalty stroke to reduce the margin.

Bangladesh, who began their campaign with a 5-5 draw against Chinese Taipei, are currently in the top of the table. They will play their final group game against Hong Kong at 4:30 pm (Bangladesh Standard Time) on April 26.

As the top two teams from each pool will progress to the semi-finals and secure their spots in the Asian Games, Bangladesh only needs to avoid defeat against Hong Kong to secure their debut appearance in the main event.

The Pool B of the qualifiers tournament comprised of Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
