Bangladesh University Grants Commission chairman Professor SMA Faiz on Monday submitted his resignation letter citing physical illness.

He submitted the letter to the secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education on the day.

In the letter, he mentioned his inability to continue his duties because of his physical condition. In this circumstance, he requested the secretary to take necessary measures to accept his resignation.

Education ministry public relations officer Khalid Mahmud confirmed that the ministry had received the letter.

Professor Faiz joined the UGC as chairman on September 5, 2024.

The senior academic also served as the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University and chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
