Bangladesh renames Pahela Baishakh procession as ‘Baishakhi Shobhajatra’

Bangladesh cultural affairs minister, Natai Roy Chowdhury, said on Sunday that the government has renamed the Pahela Baishakh procession as ‘Baishakhi Shobhajatra’.
‘We want to stop controversy over the name of this procession,’ he told journalists after a meeting at the ministry’s conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
During the previous interim government’s tenure, the procession was renamed ‘Ananda Shobhajatra’. Before that, it was known as ‘Mangal Shobhajatra’.
