Bangladesh ex-PM Khaleda Zia freed

Former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia was released on Tuesday, a day after Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as PM and fleeing the country amid an unprecedented student-led mass uprising against her authoritarian regime.

A gazette notification by the home ministry said that the president had exempted the punishment awarded to the ex-prime minister in two cases and that she was released.
