Eminent artist Mustafa Monwar passed away on Monday morning. Prior to his death, he had been undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Dhaka.
Mohammad Rubel, one of his relatives, confirmed that the artist died at about 8:30am. Mustafa Monwar had been suffering from severe pneumonia and was receiving treatment at Square Hospital since June 14.
Born in 1935, artist, filmmaker and cultural personality Mustafa Monwar led a number of government cultural institutions — as director general at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the National Media Institute, managing director at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and as chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
