The government has proposed increasing allocation for the agriculture sector by Tk 6,209 crore in the FY2026-27 budget, underscoring its focus on food security, agricultural productivity and rural development.
The government has proposed a total allocation of Tk 43,335 crore for the agriculture, food, fisheries and livestock sectors in the FY2026-27 budget, marking an increase of Tk 6,209 crore from the revised allocation of the outgoing fiscal year.
The proposed allocation represents 0.63% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), compared with Tk 37,126 crore, or 0.61% of GDP, allocated in the revised FY2025-26 budget.
Finance Adviser Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury unveiled the proposed Tk 9.38 lakh crore national budget in Parliament on Thursday, his first budget since assuming office.
The budget targets GDP growth of 6.5% in the next fiscal year while aiming to contain inflation at 7.5%.
