Prime minister Tarique Rahman has said that any achievements made during his recent visits to Malaysia and China belong to Bangladesh and its people, rather than to him personally.
He made the remarks in Jatiya Sangsad on Saturday after the JS unanimously adopted a motion thanking him for the successful outcome of his official visits to the two countries.
The motion was passed at the start of the 16th sitting of the second and first budget session of the 13th JS, with speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad presiding over the proceedings.
Responding to the motion, the prime minister expressed his gratitude to JS and thanked all lawmakers for their support.
‘I sincerely thank all members of Jatiya Sangsad for the confidence they have shown in me,’ he said.
Tarique said the government’s foremost responsibility was to safeguard the interests of the people, who had entrusted it with the mandate to govern.
‘Our party’s guiding principle is ‘Bangladesh First’. In carrying out my responsibilities, I have tried to speak for the interests of my country and its people and to protect those interests,’ he said.
The prime minister stressed that there was no personal achievement involved.
‘If anything positive has been achieved during this visit, it is an achievement for Bangladesh. If the visit has brought any benefit to the people of this country, that achievement belongs to them,’ he said.
The prime minister thanked all members of parliament, including the leader of the opposition, for their encouragement and support in working for the country’s interests.
