Law minister Asaduzzaman has said that state minister for foreign affairs Humaiun Kobir does not hold dual citizenship. The minister made the statement while responding to questions from journalists after an event at the Ministry of Social Welfare on Tuesday.

‘First of all, what is stipulated in the law remains so. Secondly, what this government has done has been done in accordance with the Constitution. There has been no deviation from it. Therefore, whatever we have done has been done constitutionally,’ he said.

In response to a question, he said Humaiun Kobir did not have dual citizenship.

‘It is called a ‘deeming clause’. When he was sworn in, we did so in accordance with the Constitution,’ he said.

Speaking about people’s legal rights, the minister said the culture of enforced disappearances, crossfire and political persecution had been brought to an end.

‘We are committed to ensuring human rights, fundamental rights, justice and the rule of law for the people through this process. Guided by the honourable prime minister’s vision, we are moving forward on the path towards this dream,’ he said.
