Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Saturday sent an engineering team and necessary spare parts to Rome to repair an aircraft that remained grounded there due to a technical fault.

The grounded aircraft, S2-AJY, is scheduled to return to Dhaka on Sunday at about 11:30am, provided the technical issue is resolved as planned.

The incident has also delayed two international flights.

Earlier, a Biman flight, BG306, on the Toronto–Rome–Dhaka route was stranded at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport on Friday after developing a technical fault, leaving passengers waiting at the airport.

In a statement issued on Friday night, Biman attributed the disruption to a ‘technical glitch’ in the aircraft.

The incident also affected the return flight, BG305, on the Dhaka–Rome–Toronto route, as it was scheduled to operate using the same aircraft.

According to the Friday statement, the revised departure time for BG305 was set for 1:00pm on Saturday, August 8.

In a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, Biman said aircraft S2-AJY, which was scheduled to operate flight BG306 from Rome on Friday, was currently in AOG (aircraft on ground) status.

An engineering team and necessary spare parts were sent to Rome aboard BG305 on Saturday to resolve the technical issue, it said.

The flight departed Dhaka at 1:53pm and was scheduled to arrive in Rome at 7:17pm local time.

‘If the technical fault is resolved as planned, BG306 will depart Rome for Dhaka at 11:00pm local time on Saturday and is expected to arrive in Dhaka at about 11:30am on Sunday,’ the statement read.
