The convoy of National Citizen Party was attacked again at Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet on Friday night, the party leaders said. The party’s chief organiser Nasiruddin Patwary and an activist were injured and a car was vandalised in the incident.

Nasiruddin made the allegation at a press briefing held on Sylhet Circuit House premises at about 11:45pm after returning from the Jaintapur.

He said that a brick hit on the right side window glass of his car suddenly with a big sound, minutes after they started for Sylhet from Jaintapur Bazar concluding a programme marking the July uprising.

‘The window shield of the car got broken, an NCP activist and I sustained injuries in the attack,’ he said holding Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its affiliated organisations responsible for the incident.

The NCP leader said, ‘Tarique Rahman has made a great mistake by attacking me and my party leaders and activists. He will have to pay for this. I will not go to court or anywhere else. He will be defeated politically. I take it very personally.’

Regarding the police statements that rejected the allegation of attack, Nasiruddin said, ‘The vehicle of Sylhet police superintendent was behind my car. There were police vehicles in front of my car. The brick which was thrown is still here. Still the marks of injuries are seen. So, how do the police say that no such incident of attack took place?’

Jaintapur police station officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman Molla told New Age on Sunday afternoon that the allegation of attack was not right.

‘Nothing like that happened. After the rally, they were escorted safely to Sylhet. The police accompanied them throughout the entire journey,’ he claimed.
