A group of activists on Sunday filed a complaint with the chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, seeking an investigation into 27 actors, cultural personalities, a model, a television presenter and a journalist over their alleged roles in the July uprising 2024.

Chief prosecutor Md Aminul Islam asked his office to process the complaint for officially placing it for further legal action.

Al Noor Mohammad Ayas, the member secretary of the State Dialogue Forum, along with the organisation’s central organisers Muhammad Shah Alam Badsha and Mohasin, July uprising victim Abu Bakar Siddique, also known as Tuhin Farazi, and Tamim Hasan filed the complaint.

The complainants alleged that the individuals named had, at different times, been accused in the public sphere of involvement in crimes against humanity, incitement to genocide, aiding or abetting such crimes, or other related offences during the July uprising.

They requested the chief prosecutor to initiate an independent, transparent and lawful investigation into the allegations through the tribunal.

The complaint names 27 individuals, including former Dhaka-10 lawmaker and actor Ferdous Ahmed, actress and filmmaker Meher Afroz Shaon, actors Riaz Ahmed, Aruna Biswas, Saju Khadem, Azizul Hakim, Chandan Reza and Asaduzzaman Noor, cultural personalities Shomi Kaiser, Rokeya Prachy and Hridi Haq, actresses Mahiya Mahi, Nipun Akter, Tanvin Sweety, Jyotika Jyoti, Sohana Saba, Shamima Tushti, Ashna Habib Bhabna and Sujata Azim, actor Simon Sadik, actor Hero Alom, model and lawyer Pia Jannatul, model Maria Kispotta, Mobeen Mehdi, television presenter Soma Islam and journalist Anis Alamgir.
