A member of Khulna Railway police has ‘committed suicide’ using his service gun while on duty early Saturday morning.

The incident took place at the Khulna Railway District Office in the Sonadanga Residential Area (Phase 2).

Deceased Samrat Biswas, 27, was son of Shailen Biswas from Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj.

According to the police sources, constable Samrat shot himself in his head while he was on-duty.

Superintendent of Khulna Railway Police, Ahmed Mainul Hasan, confirmed the tragic incident to the media.

“Constable Samrat Biswas was stationed at the magazine guard area this morning. Between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM, he reportedly took his own life by firing with his issued Chinese rifle,” the SP added.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the underlying reasons behind the suicide. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
