Bangladesh prime minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the swift removal of advertisements and banners congratulating him that have been displayed on billboards across various roads in the capital.

The directive was issued to the relevant authorities on Tuesday, according to the prime minister’s additional press secretary, Atikur Rahman Rumon.

He said on Tuesday morning, as the prime minister was leaving his residence in Gulshan, he instructed that a banner bearing his photograph in front of Police Plaza at Hatirjheel be removed immediately.

It was taken down at once.

Various companies have been displaying advertisements on billboards across the capital congratulating the prime minister and featuring his photograph.

Tarique has instructed the authorities concerned to remove them promptly.

Rumon said a few days ago, while travelling along Bijoy Sarani, the prime minister noticed his image displayed on an LED screen with a congratulatory message and immediately ordered its removal.

On Tuesday, the prime minister worked from his office at the secretariat, arriving at 9:15am.

As part of the day’s schedule, the director general of the Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Ziaul Haque, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister.

The additional press secretary said that the prime minister has instructed that regular patrols be intensified in coastal areas and the Bay of Bengal to prevent piracy, robbery and illegal smuggling, safeguard marine resources, and ensure the security of fishermen.
