Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Tuesday imposed international travel ban on National University former vice chancellors professor Harun-or-Rashid and Professor Mashiur Rahman over corruption allegations.

The court also ordered ACC to freeze 10 bank accounts of former director general of Rapid Action Battalion Md Harun Ar Rashid and his wife over graft allegations.

Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the court passed the orders following separate petitions filed by Anti-Corruption Commission in this regards, said ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam.

ACC deputy director Joynal Abedin, who is leading the inquiry, said that the former two NU VCs Harun-or-Rashid and Mashiur were under inquiry over alleged corruption linked to the National University.

‘As the two are attempting to flee abroad, it is necessary to prevent them from travelling in the interest of a fair inquiry,’ the ACC said in its petition.

Both the VCs served the National University during the Awami League regime.

Dhaka University Professor Mashiur Rahman served as VC of the NU from May 30, 2021 to August 11, 2024.

Earlier, DU Professor Harun-or-Rashid served as VC of the NU from March 2013 to March 2021.

The court on Tuesday also issued a travel ban on former deputy inspector general of police Sheikh Nazmul Alam over allegation of amassing illegal wealth.

DIG Nazmul Alam was posted at the Criminal Investigation Department of police but he was sent on retirement after the fall of Awami league regime amid mass uprising on August 5, 2024.

Meanwhile, the court also ordered ACC to freeze 10 bank accounts former DG of RAB Md Harun Ar Rashid, his wife Fatema Pervin Luna, over graft allegations.

ACC in a petition told the court that allegations against Md Harun Ar Rashid regarding the acquisition of illegal assets worth Tk 1,000 crore and money laundering are currently under inquiry.

During the inquiry, a review of records found a substantial amount of movable asset in the names of Harun and his wife Luna.

However, the probe did not find any satisfactory legal source of income corresponding to these assets.

‘Therefore, it is necessary to freeze the movable assets acquired in the names of Harun Ar Rashid and his wife,’ the ACC plea added.
