Gold prices have fallen sharply once again in the domestic market, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) cutting prices by Tk15,746 per bhori.
The association announced the decision in a notice issued on Saturday (31 January).
The revised prices came into effect from 10am on Saturday, BAJUS said.
Under the new rates, 22-carat gold is being sold at Tk255,617 per bhori (11.664 grammes) in the local market. The price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk244,011 per bhori, while 18-carat gold is now priced at Tk209,136 per bhori. Gold traded under the traditional method is being sold at Tk171,869 per bhori.
Silver prices have also been reduced. The price of 22-carat silver has been set at Tk7,290 per bhori. Meanwhile, 21-carat silver is selling at Tk6,940 per bhori, 18-carat silver at Tk5,949 per bhori, and traditionally made silver at Tk4,432 per bhori.
The latest cut comes just days after gold prices surged to a record high in the domestic market, driven by sharp rises in the global market. On Thursday morning, BAJUS increased gold prices by Tk16,213 per bhori in a single adjustment, pushing the price of top-quality gold to Tk286,000 per bhori — the highest ever in the country’s history. It was also the largest single increase in gold prices recorded so far.
