Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that if the July Charter is not implemented through a referendum, the upcoming national election will not be effective in any way.

He also said that holding a referendum before the national election is essential; otherwise, the election will become meaningless.

Jamaat Ameer made these remarks at a press conference in London on Friday, following his visit to the United States.

Shafiqur Rahman further said that the Jamaat’s uncompromising fight against corruption will continue and Jamaat will always stand beside the people in this struggle.

He also urged the government to extend the voter registration deadline for expatriate Bangladeshis until November 15.

Regarding the events of November 7, 1975, he said, “We oppose all forms of crime. Whoever commits a crime should be seen as a criminal, regardless of their identity.”

At the time, Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson Barrister Abu Bakar Molla, Barrister Nazrul Islam, and several other party leaders were present.

Meanwhile, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to leave London for Bangladesh on Saturday morning via Heathrow Airport.
