Swing or undecided voters are set to decide the fate of almost half the ballots in the upcoming general elections, according to a survey done by BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD).

The survey report was unveiled at an event held at the National Archives Auditorium in the capital on Monday. BIGD organized the event jointly with citizens’ platform Voice for Reform. The survey was done on 5,489 people during 1-20 July.

The rate of undecided voters was found to be 48.50% in August, up by over 10% from October. Support for all the major political parties have fallen over the past eight months, with a minor exception of 0.8% support growth for NCP.

BNP’s voter base has fallen to 12% from 16.3% in October, Jamaat-e-Islami’s has fallen to 10.40% from 11.30%, Awami League’s to 7.30% from 8.90%, Jatiya Party’s to 0.30% from 0.70%, and different Islamic party’s collective vote to 0.70% from 2.60%. NCP’s small voter base has grown to 2.80% from 2%.

Notably, 38% of the surveyed people said BNP is likely to win in their respective parliamentary areas during the February general election, while 13% betted for Jamaat and 7% for Awami League, even though it’s political activities have been banned. Only 1% of respondents thought NCP would win in their respective constituencies.
