Sacked trainee police sub-inspectors on Monday held a sit-in programme in front of the secretariat, the country’s administrative headquarters, in Dhaka, demanding reinstatement of their jobs.
They said that they were holding peaceful demonastration in front of the secretariat as the government assured to accept their demand by January 12.
‘Earlier, home secretary assured us to accept our demand by January 12. But, we are yet to see any visible move from the government,’ said sacked 40 batch trainee SI Rubel Chandra Das.
He said that they would not leave the place until government’s assurance.
Nur Siddik, another sacked SI, said that sacking them from the force after completing one year training was a discrimination in the anti-discriminatory Bangladesh.
The sit-in programme began at about 9:00am and continued till filing the report at about 1:00pm.
Including the eight trainee SIs sacked on January 2, a total of 321 trainee SIs out 823 were sacked for breaching discipline during various sessions of training programmes after the fall of Awami League-led autocratic regime on August 5 amid a student-led mass uprising.
On October 21, 2024, at least 252 trainee sub-inspectors, who were receiving basic training at the Bangladesh Police Academy at Sardah in Rajshahi under the 40th outside cadet batch, were discharged allegedly for breaching discipline.
They were discharged 10 days before their graduation ceremony, scheduled to be held on October 31.
