A special judge court in Dhaka on Thursday deferred the delivery of the verdict in a graft case, filed in 2007, against main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Mirza Abbas to January 24.
Judge Monjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6 set the fresh date at around noon as the verdict was not ready for pronouncement.
The court was scheduled to deliver the verdict on Thursday, but the court deferred the delivery of the verdict for the third time on the day.
Earlier, the court was also scheduled to deliver the verdict on November 30 and December 12 but deferred the verdict delivery due to the same reason.
On November 2, Mirza Abbas was shown arrested in the case.
Abbas was arrested in another case filed with Shahjahanpur Police Station over exploding crude bombs, attacking police, and snatching firearms from them during the party’s grand rally on October 28.
On November 22, the court concluded hearing the case summing up arguments in the case.
A total of 24 prosecution witnesses testified before the court in the case.
ACC filed the graft case against Abbas with Ramna Police Station on August 16, 2007, allegedly for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 5.97 crore and concealing information about the wealth of Tk 33.48 lakh.
