The technical education institutions of Bangladesh are operating with 8,486 vacant teaching posts against 15,844 approved positions, education minister ANM Ehsanul Haque told the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday.
Responding to separate questions from Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Md Nurul Islam of Chapainawabganj-3 and National Citizen Party lawmaker Md Abdul Hasnat of Cumilla-4, the minister, in his written answer, said that requisitions had already been sent to the Bangladesh Public Service Commission seeking recommendations for the recruitment of 2,204 teachers.
The minister said that instructors (Grade 9) and junior instructors (Grade 10) at technical education institutions are recruited through the PSC on the basis of the Bangladesh Civil Service cadre and non-cadre examinations.
He said that under the 45th BCS, the PSC had recommended appointing 97 cadre and 349 non-cadre teachers. They would be appointed after the completion of police verification.
ANM Ehsanul Haque also said that vacant posts are filled through promotions where applicable. However, promotions could not be made to 4,131 promotable teaching and staff posts as there were no eligible personnel serving in the feeder positions.
