622 people killed in road accidents across Bangladesh in May: report

At least 622 people were killed and 1,652 others were injured in 613 road accidents across the country in May this year, according to a report of the Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh.

Motorcycle accidents caused significant numbers of deaths, said the report released on Saturday.

According to the report, motorcycle-involved accidents accounted for 221 road-accidents which is 36.05 per cent of the total accidents, resulting in 231 fatalities which is 37.13 per cent of total deaths and 219 injuries, 13.25 per cent of total injuries.

In 42 railway accidents, 34 people were killed and 29 others were injured.

In 21 waterways accidents, 15 people were killed and 15 more were injured and seven remained missing.

The association issued a press release with a summary of its monthly report, which was based on tallying the incidents reported by the media.
