55,693 Bangladeshi pilgrims reach Saudi Arabia, 14 die

A total of 55,693 Bangladeshi pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj this year, according to the latest Hajj bulletin.

The pilgrims travelled on 143 flights operated under both government and private management arrangements.

According to hajj bulletin, 14 pilgrims died so far due to natural causes till yesterday. Of them, 10 are male and four female. 11 died in Makkah and three in Medina.

According to the Hajj help desk, 27,780 pilgrims travelled on 70 flights operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, while 19,457 pilgrims arrived on 51 flights operated by Saudi Airlines. Another 8,889 pilgrims travelled on 22 flights operated by Flynas.

This year, Bangladesh has been allotted a total Hajj quota of 78,500 pilgrims. A total of 660 agencies are involved in managing Hajj operations, including 30 lead agencies and 630 coordinating agencies.

Subject to the sighting of the moon, Hajj is expected to take place on 26 May this year.

Return flights are scheduled to begin on 30 May from Jeddah and will continue throughout June, with the final return flight expected on 30 June.
