Housing and public works adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Monday said that the government had not yet finalised the official residence for the next prime minister, although 37 houses had already been prepared for ministers.

While talking to reporters at the Secretariat, Adilur said the prime minister’s residence would be determined according to his preference. The options include the State Guest House Jamuna, where the chief adviser is currently residing, the Speaker’s residence at the National Parliament Complex, or another location of his choosing.

Public Works Department officials said that the ministerial residences were located in areas including Mintu Road, Hare Road, Dhanmondi, Gulshan, and Bailey Road in Dhaka.

The national parliamentary election was held on Thursday in Bangladesh, with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party emerging victorious under the leadership of its chairperson, Tareque Rahman. He is expected to take oath as prime minister on Tuesday.

Officials said that the choice of residence would ultimately depend on the prime minister’s decision. If he wants to stay at Jamuna, only minor repairs would be needed, as the property remains in good condition.

Traditionally, the prime minister of Bangladesh resides at Ganabhaban, located near the National Parliament. However, following the public uprising in 2024, the residence was demolished and has since been converted into a museum.
