At least 351 people were killed and 1,046 others were injured in 346 road crashes in 15 days during the last Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, said a report of the Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh on Monday.
Comparing with the journeys during Eid-ul-Fitr in 2025, the number of road crashes in the country has increased by 8.95 per cent, deaths by 8.26 per cent and injured people by 21.05 per cent this year.
This year, between March 14 and March 28, a total of 35 people were killed and 223 others injured in 23 railways accidents and eight people were killed, and 19 were injured and three remained missing in eight waterways accidents, the report said.
The report, prepared on the basis of news published in the media, was released at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital, said a press release issued by the association.
Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in the country on March 21.
On the occasion, the government announced a seven-day holiday from March 17 to March 23.
Minister for road transport and bridges, railways and shipping Sheikh Rabiul Alam on Sunday at a press briefing said that during Eid journey total 170 people were killed, including 47 on highways, 28 on waterways, and 17 on railways.
The rest of the deaths occurred on other types of roads across the country, he said.
Meanwhile, according to a report of the control room, established by the Road Transport and Highways Division at BRTA headquarters for the recently passed Eid-ul-Fitr, between March 16 and March 26 total 170 people were killed and 323 others were injured in 138 road crashes across the country.
In 2025, during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, 187 people were killed and 313 more were injured in 260 road accidents, the same report read.
According to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation data, total 1,621 road crash victims visited the facility from March 19 to March 23.
