At least 14 people were killed and two others injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in seven districts of the country on Sunday.
In Gaibandha, five people, including two teenage boys, were killed in Sundarganj, Saghata, and Phulchari upazilas this afternoon.
The deceased were Fuad, 14, son of former Dhopadanga Union Parishad chairman Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Rafi, 15, son of Chhoton Mia, and Mizan, 20, all residents of Dakkhin Dhopadanga village in Sundarganj; Nombar Ali, 65, of Helencha village in Saghata; and Manik Hossain, 22, a resident of Phulchari.
In Thakurgaon, two people, including a woman, were killed in Pirganj upazila.
The incidents took place in the Koshadangipara and Niamatpur areas. The deceased were Ilias Ali, 37, of Koshadangipara, and Selina Akter.
Pirganj police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hakim confirmed the matter.
In Panchagarh, a tea worker was killed and two others were injured after being struck by lightning while working in a tea garden at Sonapatila village in Atwari upazila this morning.
The deceased was identified as Suhrawardy, 35.
Atwari police station OC Motiar Rahman confirmed the casualties.
In Sirajganj, two farmers were killed in Tarash and Raiganj upazilas this afternoon.
The deceased were Abdul Hamid, 50, of Betrashin village in Tarash, and Hasan Ali, 24, a resident of Mallik Chan village in Raiganj.
