Twelve crew members, including 11 Indian nationals, were injured when a Panama-flagged commercial vessel was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman on Tuesday.
The vessel, MT On Peace (IMO 9893204), had 19 crew members on board, 17 of whom are Indian nationals, Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement.
The injured crew members were evacuated with the assistance of Omani authorities and are receiving medical treatment in Khasab, Oman, he said.
India condemned the attack and thanked the Omani authorities for their support.
Jaiswal said the continuing attacks on shipping in the region were a cause of deep concern for India and called for an immediate cessation of such attacks in the interests of peace and stability.
‘The targeting of commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure in the region must end, and navigation and commerce through international waterways must be restored at the earliest,’ he said.
