Police recovered the floating body of a madrassah student from the Mayuri Residential Lake in Khulna on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Soaeb, son of Hasib Mia of Boyra Cross Road in Sonadanga. He was a student of a local madrassah.

Sub-inspector Jahangir Molla of Harintana Police Station, quoting family members, said Soaeb had a habit of leaving home without informing anyone. He went out on Wednesday afternoon and did not return home.

His family searched for him at different places throughout the night but failed to locate him.

Local residents spotted his body floating in the lake at about 9:00am on Thursday and informed police, who later recovered the body. His parents rushed to the scene after receiving the news.

The police officer said preliminary information suggests that Soaeb did not know how to swim. He may have slipped into the lake and drowned.

The body would be handed over to the family after completion of the necessary legal procedures, police added.
