The government has formed a five-member search committee to recommend candidates for appointment to the posts of commissioners of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification on Monday, constituting the committee under Section 7 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004. According to the notification, the committee will be headed by Supreme Court Appellate Division judge, Justice Md Rezaul Haque.

The other members are Justice Razik-Al-Jalil, a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court; the Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh; the Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission; and the Secretary of the Cabinet Division.

The gazette stated that the committee has been formed to recommend suitable candidates for appointment as ACC commissioners in accordance with the provisions of the law.

As per the ACC Act, the search committee will prepare a panel of two candidates for each vacant commissioner post and submit the names to the President for consideration and appointment.

The Cabinet Division will provide the necessary secretarial support to assist the committee in carrying out its functions. The notification stated that the search committee would come into effect immediately.

Following the resignation of the ACC commission, led by its Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen, on 3 March after the BNP government assumed office, the commission has remained without any commissioners for more than three and a half months, severely affecting its operations.
