Rangpur-4 lawmaker Akhter Hossen on Monday alleged that the emergency relief allocated by the disaster management and relief industry on April 30 was distributed exclusively among constituencies represented by ruling party Members of Parliament.

Raising a supplementary question during the second sitting of the second session of parliament, Akhter stated that no opposition lawmaker had received a share of the relief allocation.

‘Natural disasters do not occur only in constituencies represented by ruling party members. In post-July uprising Bangladesh, such discrimination in relief distribution is unexpected,’ he told the house.

In response, disaster management and relief minister Asadul Habib Dulu explained that lawmakers who had submitted formal demand letters received their allocations first.

‘You will receive your relief allocation soon,’ said the minister.
