22 people killed daily in road accidents during Eid holiday: report

Nearly 22 people were killed daily on an average in road accidents between May 21 and June 2 during Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, according to a Road Safety Foundation report published on Thursday.

At least 281 people were killed and 837 more were injured in 292 road accidents in the 13 days, it also showed.

 

In the same period, 17 people were killed and nine others were injured in 22 railways accidents and eight people were killed, 24 cows were killed and 15 people injured in 13 waterways accidents, the report showed.

The report was prepared on the basis of news published in different media outlets, said a press release issued by the Road Safety Foundation, a non-government organisation working for passengers’ rights and safety.

Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated in the country on May 28.

On the occasion, the government announced a seven-day holiday from May 25 to May 31.
