Information and broadcasting minister Zahir Uddin Swapon on Monday said that the government maintains a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against any unethical obstruction to journalists in carrying out their professional responsibilities.

Speaking at an exchange meeting with journalists at the Secretariat, the minister said there had been no pressure on journalists from government.

Referring to fuel prices, Zahir Uddin Swapon said that since the onset of the global energy crisis, nearly all import-dependent countries had increased fuel prices, while the government had kept prices unchanged for a long period.

Addressing allegations of attacks on journalists at Ad-Din Hospital in the capital, the minister said that journalists’ professional safety had not been ensured there.

He said that the role of the media is to present all matters transparently before the public.

He further said that he would discuss the issue of attacks on journalists with the home minister.

The government would continue to support media outlets so that they can carry out their professional duties without hindrance, he added.

The information minister reiterated that the government would take a firm stance against any unethical attempts to obstruct journalists from performing their professional responsibilities.
