A Bangladeshi national was killed by gunfire from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Lalmonirhat border.
The incident occurred early Thursday (14 May) at around dawn in the Amjhol border area of Gothamari Union under the upazila.
The deceased, Khademul Islam, was the son of Amzad Hossain from North Amjhol village in Gothamari Union.
Locals said that early in the morning, Khademul Islam along with several others went near the 905/6-S pillar area along the border under the jurisdiction of the Bonchoki BOP. At that time, a patrol team from the Paglamari camp of India’s 78 BSF Battalion opened fire at them. Khademul was hit by bullets in his face, chest, and head.
He was later rescued in critical condition by his companions and taken to a private clinic in Rangpur, where he died while undergoing treatment in the morning.
Regarding the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam, commanding officer of the 15 BGB Battalion, said that they have received reports of a Bangladeshi being killed by BSF gunfire. However, the exact cause of the incident has not yet been confirmed. He added that a protest has been lodged and a flag meeting has been requested with the BSF.
Earlier on 8 May, two Bangladeshis were shot dead by the BSP at the border in Brahmanbaria.
Before that incident could fade from public attention, another Bangladeshi has now been killed by BSF gunfire at the Bonchoki border area in Lalmonirhat.
