Prime minister and leader of the House Tarique Rahman on Wednesday apologised to the residents of Chattogram for the recurring waterlogging that has disrupted normal life in the port city.

He made the remark in the Jatiya Sangsad during the 24th sitting of the ongoing first session, responding to a point of order raised by Chattogram-10 lawmaker Sayeed Al Noman.

Noman told the House that waterlogging had taken a severe turn in Chattogram, causing widespread suffering for residents.

Heavy rainfall on Tuesday left major parts of the city inundated as poor drainage and clogged runoff channels led to water accumulation.

In reply, the prime minister said that he had already spoken to the administrator of the Chattogram City Corporation regarding the situation.

‘The city corporation is trying to address the problem, but it will take time,’ he said.

He also urged lawmakers to encourage citizens to reduce plastic use and ensure proper disposal, noting that indiscriminate waste dumping contributes significantly to drainage congestion.
