The ball-boy tradition would be revived with the three-match T20I series between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Chattogram, according to the president of the ad-hoc committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Tamim Iqbal.

Tamim, the former national team captain, who also served as a ball boy, wanted to bring back the tradition to Bangladesh cricket.

‘I don’t know when it stopped. I think it should be there. From the T20 series, there will be ball boys,’ he told reporters in a chat during the second ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

Tamim, reminiscing about his own days as a ball-boy in his hometown of Chattogram, said, ‘I used to be a ball-boy back in the day. I remember being a ball-boy during the MCC tour of Bangladesh when India toured Bangladesh in 2004. It’s a good thing,’ he added.

Tamim also said that a cricketer’s card would be introduced soon after he distributed the captain’s card to the former and current captains of the Bangladesh national team for men and women.

Tamim, who replaced Aminul Islam at BCB’s helm on April 7, reiterated that they would focus on holding the election sooner than the deadline.

He hinted that the election might be held by the second week of June.
