National Citizen Party lawmaker from the Rangpur-4 constituency, Akhter Hossen, urged the government to revise fuel prices to be tolerable for consumers.

Addressing the 18th sitting of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad’s first session on Tuesday, he said that the latest increase in liquefied petroleum gas price was ‘excessive’.

The government on April 19 increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas used for cooking by Tk 17.62 a kilogram a day after hiking fuel oil prices amid the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region, a key source of global energy supply.

Akhter said the consumers were suffering due to the recent rise in LPG price.

He also demanded that the government must find the reason behind the artificial crisis of the fuels.

According to a New Age report, due to the increase in the LPG price, the retail price of a widely used 12 kg LPG cylinder rose by Tk 212 to stand at Tk 1,940.

The 12kg LPG cylinder witnessed a Tk 599 increase in its price in April, as on April 2, the government raised its price by Tk 387.
