Child deaths from measles, symptoms cross 200

The number of child deaths from measles and related symptoms have crossed 200 in the country, with eight new fatalities reported in the 24 hours till Thursday morning.

The two hundred-mark has been crossed in just over a month since the surprise outbreak officially started on 15 March.

Among the latest deaths, two children died from measles and six others from measles-like symptoms across the country between 8am Wednesday and 8am Thursday.

Over the same 24-hour period, the number of measles infected patients was 92 and that of patients with symptoms was 811.

Since 15 March, 34 children have died from confirmed measles cases, and 172 from related symptoms. The caseload of confirmed measles diagnosis has been 3,065, and that of symptoms has been 20,352. Over the same period, the total number of hospitalisations with measles-like symptoms has been 13,129.
