The government has extended the closing time for shopping centres, malls and retail shops by one hour to 7:00pm, in light of the global energy crisis triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The Bangladesh Shop Owners Association confirmed the development to journalists on Sunday (5 April).

Previously, the government had enforced a directive requiring shopping malls and markets to close by 6:00pm as part of energy-saving measures.

The association had earlier called for a review of the decision, urging the authorities to reconsider the restrictions. Leaders of the organisation also appealed to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to allow businesses to operate until 8:00pm.

Following these appeals, the government decided to extend trading hours by one hour.
