Foreign affairs adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Sunday said that the interim government had worries too about the February 12 general elections and they were trying to address it as there were only 10 days ahead.
He, however, assured that they were moving forward on their own way so that the election was held as per the schedule.
‘We have worries too about the national elections as no one wants to lose in the election here. We are trying to solve it,’ said Touhid, a retired diplomat, while responding to questions during a closing session of a two-day training on election reporting for diplomatic correspondents at a city hotel.
The foreign adviser’s attention was drawn to the concerns raised over electoral violence by some foreign countries ahead of the national polls.
Touhid said that there was a kind of tension centering the election. ‘But the election will be held as per the schedule. We are moving forward on our own way,’ he added.
He said that no election was completely peaceful in the country’s history. ‘Violence may take place this time also. Law enforcement agencies must take actions to keep it on a limited scale,’ he said.
He said that the government wanted to hold a credible election that should reflect the will of the people.
The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh with the support of the Media Resources Development Initiative, a non-government organisation, organised the event.
