A Dhaka court on Thursday framed charges against Sitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, in a corruption case for failing to submit his wealth statement.

Judge Ayesha Nasrin of Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 framed the charges and formally commenced the trial proceedings, scheduling the next hearing for witness testimony on 20 January.

On this day, Sur Chowdhury was produced before the court for a hearing where ACC prosecutor Shamsuddin Md Abul Kalam pleaded for charge framing. The charges were read aloud to the accused. However, the hearing for discharge was not held.

According to the case documents, the ACC issued a notice asking him to submit a detailed statement of his assets, held in his own name or in the name of dependent persons, along with debts, income sources, and details of asset acquisition, which he failed to submit within time.

Later, ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain, on 23 December last year, filed a case against him under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004. The ACC submitted the charge sheet against the accused on 25 August this year.

On 14 January, an ACC team arrested him in the Segunbagicha area of the capital, and he has remained in custody since then.
