Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has stated that an accused has to navigate 12 subsequent steps even after granting bail by the court, during which they often incur expenses and endure harassment.
To address this issue, the transmission of bail bonds will go online starting tomorrow (15 October). This system will enable bail orders to be sent directly to the relevant prison with just one click, he added while speaking at the inauguration of the Attorney General’s Office Internship Programme held at the Supreme Court Auditorium on Tuesday (14 October).
The law adviser said, “We have introduced many reforms from the Ministry of Law without anyone’s assistance. Tomorrow, we will inaugurate the online bail bond system as a pilot project. Currently, after getting bail, a person has to go through 12 steps before being released, facing harassment and sometimes paying bribes.”
“Once the system is launched, a single click will send the bail order directly from the court to the jail where the accused is detained. We developed this system using government funds, without any external help,” he added.
Adviser Asif Nazrul further mentioned that the government has sufficient financial resources, citing examples such as deposits of Tk1,600 crore in the Probashi Kalyan Bank and Tk1,500 crore in the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Office.
The event was presided over by Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, with Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rouf and Barrister Anik R Haque also speaking at the occasion.
