The ICT investigation team has formally launched an investigation into the alleged crimes against humanity committed by Awami League as a political party, said ICT Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam on Tuesday.
The investigating officer has already been appointed to this end, Tajul told reporters.
On 2 October last year, Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) Chairman Bobby Hajjaj filed a complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), alleging Awami League, and 14 other political parties allied with it, ordered the massacre of anti-government protesters during last year’s anti-fascist uprising.
In light of the complaint, the ICT investigation team has launched an initial probe into the claims, Tajul said Tuesday. When the investigation will start in full swing, the team can inform the media how far it has progressed in holding Awami League accountable as a group, he added.
